SAPIENZA

With over 700 years of history and 120,000 students Sapienza, founded in 1303 by Pope Boniface VIII, is the first University in Rome and the largest University in Europe. Sapienza has around 4,500 professors and almost 4,000 administrative and technical staff. Students from other regions are over 30,000. Foreign students are over 7,000. Incoming and outgoing Erasmus students are about 2,000 per year. DIMA Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering was established in 1982. DIMA main objectives are the promotion and coordination of research activities in the fields of applied mechanic, fluid-dynamic, aerospace engines, mechanical and thermal measurements, technological design, management and project of engines, industrial and energy plants, renewable energy and energy efficiency. DIMA supports 2nd level Professional Masters as EFER–Energy Efficiency and Renewable Sources and it is the coordinator of several European project, both in education and research, such as Joint mAster of Mediterranean Initiatives on renewable and sustainable energy - JAMILA project, funded under the TEMPUS programme (2013). DIMA operates for developing renewable power plants and process simulations by use of standard and “ad hoc” programs (TRNSYS, CHEMCAD, ASPEN, CFD codes).

UCY

UCY is the leading research University in Cyprus that aspires to promote scholarship and education standards of excellence through teaching and research. More than 7000 students (undergraduate and graduate) currently undertake studies are the UCY. The Univeristy has 8 faculties, 22 departments and 11 research units at UCY, including a Research Centre on Sustainable Energy. UCY is currently managing competitive research funds that exceed the 50 million Euro mark. Recently, it has revised its research policy in order to increase the efficiency of the University to utilize research funding and opportunities, and to better promote research initiatives in Cyprus. The new policy adopts the EC declarations for balancing basic and applied research, and provides the necessary administrative support to the academic and research staff. The Electrical and Computer Engineering department is the largest department in the School of Engineering and it strives to provide high quality degree programs at undergraduate and graduate levels. One of its main priorities is to develop further its research portfolio in the field of renewable energy sources and in particular solar energy, thus utilising Cyprus' high solar resource.

UCA

The University of Cadiz is located in the south of Spain, in a key geostrategic area connecting Europe and Africa through the Gibraltar Straight, and Europe and Latin America though its historical and commercial links. Committed to the highest intellectual, moral and cultural standards, our University strives to produce principled and competent graduates. It nurtures a service-oriented and environment-conscious community which seeks to contribute to the advancement of the global society.
The academic offer of UCA is served by its four campuses that allow the University to be present in the entire Cadiz province. Degrees, Masters and Ph. D. titles are offered in all branches of knowledge: Arts and Humanities, Business, Sciences, Engineering, Health Sciences, and Social and Legal Sciences with a total of 69 Degrees; 34 Official Master Programs (2 Erasmus Mundus) and 39 Doctorate Programs (1 Erasmus Mundus Ph. D.). The university of Cadiz has lot of experience in the renewable energies and its applications studies, with a lot of doctoral thesis, graduate thesis and master thesis in this matters.
The experience in other projects with Guatemala Universities is very large. As example, different mobility programs for students between Guatemala and other Central America Universities, financing by OEA and Andalusian Government, PIMA initiative and PCI programs of AECID (Spanish international cooperation agency.

GALILEO

Universidad Galileo is a higher education entity, which has experienced significant growth - often described as “extraordinary” – since it was created in 2000. This is due to the technological focus of its programs and by providing an educational approach which is different to the traditional one. It is driven by a very clear motto: “To educate is to change visions and transform lives”. The University adopted the name Galileo from Galileo Galilei, mathematician, astronomer and physicist, who represented the change of an era, marking the end of the Middle Ages and the beginning of the Renaissance. In this sense the institutional philosophy bases its activities on the individual as a human being; recognizing the need to support the development of Guatemalans in general, being fully aware that the main tool for personal growth is education. We are an educational entity, which promotes the use of science and technology in solving national problems; we prepare professionals with academic excellence, a high spirit of justice, human and ethical values in service of society. We are committed to our country by providing people with access to university grade studies regardless of their gender, ethnic background, social status, or geographical location. The Institute of Energy Resources (IRE by is name in Spanish) has as its mission to empower professionals on subjects regarding conventional and renewable energy resources, as well as energy efficiency and environmental management, through academic programs that allow them to act consciously in the current dynamic of Guatemala’s energy sector and contribute to the country’s sustainable development. IRE activities focus on three specific areas: academia, research and extension. In order to fulfill its academic purpose, IRE provides formal academic programs and academic programs tailored to the needs of the industrial sector regarding specific subjects such as environmental and energy management.

URL

Universidad Rafael Landívar (URL) is an independent, nonprofit institute of higher education founded in Guatemala since 1961. URL through its research, teaching and outreach functions is committed to contribute with the comprehensive and sustainable development, transforming people and society towards more humane, just, inclusive and free dimensions.
The Institute of Agriculture, Natural Resources and Environment (IARNA) is one of the ten research institutes of URL established to promote knowledge generation processes to be applied in URL´s teaching and to provide solutions to progress steadily in national development goals. IARNA also aims to strengthen knowledge about the functioning of natural systems and its interaction with political decisions at an institutional level looking forward to strengthen national development processes related to the improvement of people and their environment.
All these aspects that IARNA aims are reflected in the conceptualization, design and development of URL’s research agenda, which gives support to the development of thesis (research) of students at bachelor’s and master’s degree , as well as the design of undergraduate and/or graduate programs.

UDELAR

Founded on 1839, Universidad de la República (UDELAR) is the only state-owned, free and co-governed university in the country. Its main duties are education, research and relation with the community. According to the Constitution, UDELAR is responsible for the country's Higher Education, and it issues the validations of all foreign degrees.It offers courses in all areas of knowledge.
UDELAR attends and 85% of university students in the country. The university gathers over 109.000 undergraduate students, more than 10.000 professors and researchers and 6.184 non-teaching staff. Currently, it offers 99 undergraduate courses, 40 technical careers, 73 masters degree, 19 PhDs, and over 230 postgraduate courses. The university works throughout the country, and it is organized in 16 Schools, 2 Institutes and 3 Regional Centers with many branches and experimental centers.
In the last decades UDELAR has developed numerous actions related to cooperation and international relations. It has promoted the creation of university associations; it has an active participation in partner networks, bilateral and multilateral programs and projects (joint research and mobility) with nations in Latin America, Europe and the rest of the world.

UNdeC

National University of Chilecito (UNdeC) is an Argentine State higher education institution. It pursues scientific and technological excellence, building on the region's features and seeking to become a national and international reference in the disciplines that characterize it. It thus blends national accountability with regional commitment and an international outlook. UNdeC has about 5,000 undergraduate students. UNdeC engages in the region’s economic and social development and is an example of democracy, coexistence, autonomy and responsible freedom.
UNdeC understands that international cooperation complements the local / community development strategy, stimulating and providing elements of great value to the projects to be implemented.
In the current context, international cooperation becomes especially significant as an instrument for the exchange of knowledge and experience, to properly position itself and as a tool for promoting democratic coexistence, the spirit of solidarity.
In the academic field of renewable energy, energy efficiency and sustainable local development, internationalization is vital, whereas student and faculty mobility is an essential component of higher education internationalization processes.

UNS

Established in 1956, the Universidad Nacional del Sur is a public university located in the city of Bahía Blanca, 700 km South of Buenos Aires, and it is the oldest university in the Patagonia region. Teaching and research activities are organized into 16 academic departments that offer 52 undergraduate programs and 42 high quality post-graduate programs.
UNS has begun an internationalization process that implies the development and implementation of a policy of openness to the world. In order to achieve this goal, the UNS is developing several activities to promote mobility of undergraduate and postgraduate students, academic staff, and researchers; participation in regional and international networks; collaborative work with strategic partners in several regions of the world; development of academic postgraduate programs; subscription of agreements with foreign institutions; implementation of joint research projects with groups in other countries; creation of an English as a Foreign Language program for local students and of a Spanish as a Foreign Language program for international students; internationalization of the curricula of the different careers and promotion of undergraduate double degrees and postgraduate co-tutelle programs.

UNSL

UNSL offers more than 70 Degree and Pre-degree courses (Bachelor's, Engineering, Teaching and Technical). The academic offer is complemented by more than 30 postgraduate degrees (Doctorates, Masters, Specializations, Systematic Curricular Courses and Courses) and possess more than 14,000 students participating in the institutional life of the UNSL, mainly from the Argentine provinces of San Luis, Mendoza, Cordoba, San Juan, La Pampa and Buenos Aires. Also highlighting the presence of students from different countries in the region.
In terms of scientific and technological development, the National University of San Luis has a rich tradition within the Argentine university system. Currently about 1000 researchers participate in more than 150 research projects. It has five CONICET Institutes in which basic and applied research is carried out in the areas of Chemical Technology, Analytical Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics and Biochemistry. In the City of Villa Mercedes operates the Faculty of Engineering and Agricultural Sciences as well as the Faculty of Economic, Legal and Social Sciences. In the University Center of Merlo develops the Faculty of Tourism and Urbanism.
